Is the Real Tone Cable Seriously Unusable with a Windows 10/USB 3.0 Only Computer?
1. Completely reinstall Windows 10
2. Use a powered USB 2.0 hub
3. Make a blood sacrifice to the Dark Lord
Thanks to everyone who helped out, I appreciate it!
Original Post:
I can't get around the Code 10 (The device cannot start) error on my new build. I've tried every USB port on my machine, while uninstalling the driver and disconnecting the breakaway cable in between each try. I picked up a powered USB 2.0 hub like some people have suggested and get the same error using it. I'd like to be able to use the in-game pedal effects, but it sounds like all the workarounds using other cables disables them. Can Ubisoft not solve these issues by releasing a proper driver for the cable? Is this real life?

This issue could have occurred due to corrupt USB drivers.
I would suggest you to try to uninstall and then try to install latest USB drivers in compatibility mode and check.
Follow the below steps to install drivers in compatibility mode.
1. Right click on driver installation file and select Troubleshoot in compatibility mode and check in the Run this program in compatibility mode.
2. Tap or click the drop down box and select operating system, then tap or click OK.
4. Follow the on screen instructions.
Hope this helps. If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hi
This still does not work
The Bose system does not come with it's own drivers (and I cannot find any on the internet)
I tried uninstalling the USB driver and reinstalling in compatibility mode, makes no difference
What else can I try?

Hi,
Sorry you are still having problems with your USB speaker.
1. Do other USB devices work in the USB ports, like a flash drive?
2. Have you tried a different USB cable?
3. If you are still having problems, please submit a Windows Feedback, using Repro Mode, with the feedback app as described here (note, repro mode is only available to those who are part of the insiders program): http://blogs.msdn.com/b/usbcoreblog/archive/2015/08/17/filing-usb-feedback-with-repro-mode-in-windows-10.aspxand include the following in the bug:
a. If the issue is happening all the time or only after certain events (such as waking up from sleep)
b. If all of your ports are not working, or if this is only happening on specific ports
Thanks!
Kristin

I have the same problem, none of those work. I don't see drivers for that device on the web either. Any other ideas?

Hi Perry,
I suggest you to check with the manufacturer website for the latest driver for the Bose Companion 5.
If it is not released yet, I suggest you to keep in touch with the manufacturer customer support for the same.
Keep us posted on the issue. We will be happy to assist you.
Thank you.

The BOSE speakers adhere to the USB Audio standard, so no manufacturer driver is required if the platform supports USB Audio Class. In other words, no drivers from Bose needed. My Bose speakers work fine on Vista and Win7 (never had Win8 so I don't know) but fail on Win10. The speakers also work on Mac. The Win10 USB Audio appears to be broken - I get the same error on 3 different Win10 machines - 'Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)'. Since that's the same as the original post in this thread, same on my 3 Win10 boxes (1 is brand new with factory install of Win10, the other 2 are upgrades from Win7) - It's fairly clear its a Win10 issue, namely broken USB Audio support. The USB ports work fine for other things that I've tried, Printer, USB Hard Drives, USB Flash drives, USB Hub, USB Camera - but not Audio. I also checked a USB Headset which also uses standard USB Audio Class and it generated the exact same error again. In a nutshell, Win10 broke USB Audio. I knew it was broken in the early Win10 pre-release but I'm shocked it made it to production like that. Come on Microsoft, you have excellent USB stack engineers (I worked with some of them on the USB spec!!!), you can fix this.

I have (had) the same problem with my Bose Companion 5. They worked with windows 10 until the last 1511 update.
After reading the previous post i realised i have a separate usb 3 card installed with its own drivers.
When i plugged in the cable the Bose USB Audio was immediately recognized.
these are the drivers that are in use now:

Hi Byron,
As per Jelle, he updated to the build 1511. The driver got installed with its own and when he plugged in the cable the Bose USB Audio was recognized and his issue was fixed.
You may also follow the same steps if you are facing the same issue or please let us know the issue you are facing with Audio. We'll certainly help you further.

Soni, u should read what Jelle said again, so everyone have to install a separate usb just because Microsoft can't fix the dumb usb issues? So please do not provide the false solution!
